Last weekend I did the repair according to everyones advice.
It went without a hitch. It was actually an enjoyable affair.

The door window regulator was easy to swap out and I used rivets to install the new one. I got the new one on eBay for $64 w/ shipping, it only took an hour to install, and I'm a total novice.

Now I'm going to post 2 more projects asking for advice. Again thanks for the advice from everyone.
