-Fluid level and condition (color, smell, etc.)
-Checked to see if the vacuum modulator hose is on and in good condition.
-checked the kick down switch, (at the gas pedal or near the linkage)

Make a few checks and report back. I'm sure some folks will chime in when you have more data.
