you can tell by turning the car in circles while coasting in a parking lot with the engine off. If you hear a rumble when you turn right but not left it is the right side bearing and vice versa. I have never done them on a MB so I can't help you with the procedure. The CDROM does not have this procedure, but I am sure somebody has done this and can help out.
