1. I have a different engine and mine has the same problem. no "instant fix" answers have been found yet, but it coudln't even pull itself up onto our trailer until it got warm the other day.
2. I think most engines do this. Why diesels do it I'm not sure but it's the "fouled plug" effect in gas burners, idle for long enough, temps drop, fuel and oil sort of just get built up in injectors, (spark plugs on gassers), etc. Give it some throttle and things just sort of clear out. Maybe? Makes sense to me anyway.
