His audience is some 30 million, he NEVER subjects himself to fair debate from any detractors -- he controls the floor at all times.
Oh yeah, free speech and all, just like Goebbels and his boys had free speech. Shouting fire in a crowded theater is not generally approved of and Limbaugh's continual placing of blame on the crowd that his sponsors wish to marginalize is not scientific, scholarly, you name it.
He declares that he is never wrong and the large segment of the American public who are congenitally unable to consider that their country could ever be foolish, in error, in a mass sort of way drink it up like mother's milk.
Thus we proceed to mediocrity.

It was the Republicans who started the method of preaching to the choir information game, but Democrats have caught up now. The end result is people not trusting anything but the source they're tuned into. It rather effectively ended open mindedness.
