Good News and Bad News

First the bad news:

Wife’s little 300D set me back $2287 for the new/rebuilt transmission and it was done by someone who seems to take pride in his work and knew what he was doing. But hey in today’s money that is just four car payments for the average new car. I now have $6000 in her car and she needs to drive it 2 more years before we sell it and buy another car. I will hand down the E320 CDI to her. Most likely I will get a R320 CDI, will try to find a off lease '07 or 08 model to save a few bucks if I can.

Now for the good news:

The last 3 fill ups for the CDI has averaged 26 mpg in local city driving. I have averaged between 495 to 500 miles on the three tanks, with fill ups running 18.3 to 18.7 gallons each time. Needless to say I am pleased as can be with the mileage since I do not drive it granny fashion for good mileage. A couple of friends who ride with me regularly say if they were to drive the car they would probably get 3 to 4 mpg better then I do in town.
