Go to
www.freightquote.com and enter the shipping, receiving and item info. It's kind of like travelocity or priceline for LTL carriers. It will give you a list of all of the companies in their database as well as what the freight charges will be. If you decide to ship the item it's just a matter of clicking on the carrier you want to use and printing out a bill of lading which they will send to you via fax or email.
