I'd remove the passenger side valve cover and take a good look to see if your valves are not bent. If the chain is that loose, then you need to replace it. the binding "Could Be" a piece of guide getting between the sprocket and the chain.
Hopefully you didn't harm the engine by turning it over against the bind. That "bind could have been valves interfering with the pistons. Hopefully not.
