Solved now. Here is what happened & my side trip. Trade Subie for Volvo?
Thanks guys, here is what I did.
Got AAA on the line, and while waiting, she FOUND the key. It was in the bathroom.
But I was sick of this crap, so I decided to finish it once and for all.
I took the car to a local locksmith, and he said it needed a laser cut key (1996 Volvo 960 wagon) and they didn't have the machine, nobody in this small town can afford them. $hit.
So I called up the nearest Volvo dealer, (in Sacramento, and they said they could do it today, they had a machine.)
I took the wagon down to the dealer, they cut TWO, that's right, TWO keys @$32 each.
This broad is frankly kinda ditzy, I don't think she could find her a$$ with two hands and a flashlight.
Then I went and had lunch in my favorite Peruvain restaurant and went to teh Cadillac junkyard in Rancho Cordova, and got a set of Cadillac horns for the 560SEC.
They are nice and loud, the W126 horns are ridiculous, they sound gay or like for a VW beetle. Absurd for a car like that.
I had thought about an air horn, compressor and all that, but that might cause the adverse car to jump in the air and split in half.
I will try and install them to work WITH the dual note "Town and Country" gay Mercedes W126 horns, but to be safe I think I will add in a 15 amp fuse over the stock 5, as they draw down a lot of current when you'd use them.
This was the same lady who offered to swap me straight across this Volvo for the '95 Subaru Outback I bought for the snow here.I had a chance to give the Volvo a real good, 150 mile test drive.
I like the Volvo, the 2.9 turbo makes it a good RWD road car, but I am going to keep the Subie. It was fantastic in snow the other day, and I know it well, has books and records. Each have identical miles, 121k, and run good, but the Volvo has no records on it, and the inside looks like a hotel room where 12 junkies, each with a different addiction, had lived for a week. It was nasty!!
Turned out good though.
Sher and her boyfriend are so happy they are taking me to dinner at the Lake Wildwood Country Club tomorrow night!!!
Nice!!!!!!
thanks for your suggestions - every one of them was spot on!!!
