I had this on my 300cd. Not sure why, but all of a sudden it started resisting acceleration, then it would pop and smooth out (the pedal feel). It is dangerous because it could get stuck while driving.

Depending on your model, but mine used metal rods. You can pop them apart one at a time of course and clean and lubricate them (manual says use ATF fluid, but some members disagree) I had to manipulate mine (bend) to get it to smooth out. You can tell where your problem is generally speaking by popping the hood and watching as you move it by hand....
