Throttle linkage?

I know that sounds strange in a diesel forum, but its the best word for my problem. I was coming home the other night and when I pulled into the drive the car revved up like the pedal was to the floor. after I i turned it off, I looked under the hood to see that the mechanical linkage the accelerator actuates was stuck. i wiggled it and it snapped back to normal. It then appreared to be loose and in need of adjustment. What should I do to fix this problem?

What model and chassis? I have done this on a W124 300D. It was a very easy mistake to make, but then fix.

Please complete your profile with what type of car you have and what year so more accurate information can be sent your way.

It's probably a throttle bushing at the firewall, or the linkages out of adjustment/lubrication.

I had this

I had this on my 300cd. Not sure why, but all of a sudden it started resisting acceleration, then it would pop and smooth out (the pedal feel). It is dangerous because it could get stuck while driving.

Depending on your model, but mine used metal rods. You can pop them apart one at a time of course and clean and lubricate them (manual says use ATF fluid, but some members disagree) I had to manipulate mine (bend) to get it to smooth out. You can tell where your problem is generally speaking by popping the hood and watching as you move it by hand....

Post your model number so people can advise you..

In that case

In that case, yours should be the same as mine. Read my post ...you will probably have to bend them slightly if the cleaning and lubrication doesn't work. Be as gentle as you can be, if you have resistance or it is jamming, take your time, and just work it by hand under the hood until it improves.
