I am looking for a diesel, with hopes of finding one with a manual transmission (not picky however). I would be interested in a gas; I just know nothing about the engine. I have been told they only came with a six cylinder? What type of gas mileage will this get and does it have a good toeing capacity? Is the six cylinder reliable, or what can I expect to have to replace?

Any help would be appreciated,

The early to mid 80's G's came with either a 4 or a 6 cylinder gasoline engine or a 4 or a 5 cylinder diesel. The diesels are very hard to come by, as lots of folks looking at them for WVO applications.

The older G's show up occasionally on Ebay and another good site is the classifieds section of clubgwagen.com.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like more information. I've been driving a G since 1984.
