For now just buy an HDMI upconverting DVD player with 1080p output. It will fill your HD screen with an enjoyable picture from standard DVDs. You want this for your old DVDs anyway.

If you rent a lot of DVDs and have a good source for blue-ray rental disks I might change my mind.
