The oil filter is at the left (right front as you stand in front of the truck and look at it) front top of the engine. You do have to remove the plastiuc engine cover to access it; and it requires a special wrench to remove and properly torque it when reinstalling.
I'm with you on the oil changes. Mine w/filter were done at 1K, 5K, 10K, 15K, 20K, 25K and 30K. Many will say "overkill", but it makes me happy; and my engine's not complaining either.
