Questions re: 2008 GL320CDI:

I've always heard that it is a good idea (at least in the good old days) to change oil at 1000 miles (after break-in). Nothing in manual about it of course (10k first change) and I have read that these engines are "run-in" at the factory and also that extended oil use is necessary for proper break-in.

Any insights on this from anyone? Everything else being equal I would rather change early (I just crossed 1K). I have the Mobil 1 Formula M oil and filter and just went and took a look-see for the filter housing (in the dark with my flashlight) and nothing looked familiar (I pulled the engine top off). Can anybody help me narrow down my search? As I suck my oil out I am hoping it is somewhere easily accessed that I just missed.

Any other advice on this car would be greatly appreciated.
