Had something similar happen but thankfully not in the rain. When I was 16, the gf at the time and I got up early one Saturday we both had off and took the bimmer to IHOP, in nice clothes of course. We made it, ate, and I decided to be nice and get her door for her as we were leaving because you kind of have to slam it to get it to shut right and wouldn't you know it, my shutting the door made the hangers give way and clunk went the muffler! Thankfully that IHOP was right next to a Home Depot so I went and bought some ring clamps and a cheap painter's tarp to lay on and got the thing put back up. Come to think of it, those ring clamps are still holding that muffler up four years later...
