I hate when that happens

I just looked under the other day and said to myself
self ya gotta put new hangers on this weekend.
Almost made it to the weekend too
Last nite, in the rain, yup, drug the muffler
a half mile before I could get off the road.
And the pair I keep in the car for just this type of
emergency.......at home, in a box where my wife put them
when she cleaned out the car.
So, there I am, in a down pour, layin under the assend
of the car in a parking lot...wiring the freakin exhaust up.

I've had better days

Had something similar happen but thankfully not in the rain. When I was 16, the gf at the time and I got up early one Saturday we both had off and took the bimmer to IHOP, in nice clothes of course. We made it, ate, and I decided to be nice and get her door for her as we were leaving because you kind of have to slam it to get it to shut right and wouldn't you know it, my shutting the door made the hangers give way and clunk went the muffler! Thankfully that IHOP was right next to a Home Depot so I went and bought some ring clamps and a cheap painter's tarp to lay on and got the thing put back up. Come to think of it, those ring clamps are still holding that muffler up four years later...

you must have been one loaded 16 year old. Im 17 and could never afford to go to breakfast for two, then by simple things at home depot, then a tarp just so my clothes dont get dirty. Hmm, maybe I should get a job!

Yeah....I didn't even have a car until I was 17.........I was just a poor 16 year old riding the bus.

No longer though. College is over in 2 months and then I am going to actually (hopefully) have some money!

I know what you mean. I can recall using wire to hold up parts of my exhaust system in my early days and keeping an ear open in case part of it came loose.
As a side note;Unbelievably, my Father (separated from us by a divorce) was pissed off at me for buying my own car ($125 in 1968 dollars) by myself with my own money I had earned/saved!
Also, the guy in the other post knew how to fix it right and had the skill to do so and he did not buy that knowledge/skill.

To avoid that situation in the future, I've heard that hangars from an SL have a wire core but they are expensive. I looped some aircraft wire around my exhaust so if the hangars fail the wire will keep the exhaust off the road.

I have been through all this too with the W126.

Buy 560SL hangars. Not only will they fit, but INSIDE (where you can't see) they have steel reinforcement rings!! You will likely never need another. The standard ones for the W126 SE/SEL/SEC are ordinary rubber, better than the donut O rings found at Autozone, Napa, Checker, etc, but worse than the 560SL hangars which will fit.

I was told this by two absolute EXPERT W126 mechanics, one in Los Angeles and by another, near the San Francisco airport.

(note: late edit: noticed that you may now only run the W123. I dont knwo for sure if the 560SL hangars fit on those.)

Get a job.

I replaced all the exhuast hangers right after I got the car, I noticed they were pretty cracked and shot looking. I probably should check them again.
