Last fall when I put my '79 450SL "to bed" for the winter I purchased a fancy microprocessor controlled "charger/maintainer" for it, and it kept my battery in good shape all winter long. When I started it the other day to back it out and wash it, the engine spun over like it had a new battery in the car. Very pleased - about the same cost as a new battery, though.
