1991 SL500 won't start ... nothing at all!

Hi...I am a new member ... just just joined this morning and can sure use your help!

I know very very little about cars and so please bear with my inexperience.

I bought a 91 SL500 May 2007 no problems....put it away for the winter..I did start it in January no problem.....tried to start this morning and NOTHING! Engine doesn't crank....nothing lights up on dashboard....no lights..radio..NOTHING.

Plenty of gas....checked battery and also boosted...still NOTHING.....tried starting in Neutral ..still nothing. At 1 point the dashboard instrument panel did light up but only for 10 seconds or so....

Anyone out there with ideas?

Thx

Start by cleaning your battery cable ends and checking your ground attachments both the place the neg attaches to the chassis and the engine to chassis strap.

Good luck.

Start by charging the battery. It is common for tha alarm system and computer sleep modes to drain a battery in a couple of months on those chassis.

I would bet on a tired or discharged battery.

You really should consider disconnecting your battery and keeping an automatic trickle charger on the battery. Letting your battery charge down like this is hard on it...

Your problem is most likely just a dead battery--try first to charge it--if still nothing--bring it in to be "load" tested @ a battery shop. It could be shot...

Last fall when I put my '79 450SL "to bed" for the winter I purchased a fancy microprocessor controlled "charger/maintainer" for it, and it kept my battery in good shape all winter long. When I started it the other day to back it out and wash it, the engine spun over like it had a new battery in the car. Very pleased - about the same cost as a new battery, though.

Batteries are cheap. Just replace it and be done with it.

Invest in a trickle charger to keep from killing the new or or start the car occasionally to keep it charged and keep the engine healthy.
