You'll be able to receive messages fine, but most networks won't let you send mail from their SMTP (mail sending) server unless you're either on your network or can authenticate to it. Check with your email provider to be sure. If you can send messages when you're away from home here in the States (coffee shops, libraries, etc) you'll be able to do so from anywhere else in the world as well. If you have to be at home in order to send mail, then it won't work there either.
