Will my e-mail work ?

Heading out to Europe soon and got that I-pod touch for internet and e-mail capabilities. Wondering though if my home e-mail is going to work, or if I need a different service to keep in touch. I use Outlook Express here at home. Any thoughts ?

I would think that if you have Hotmail or something like that, you could access it from anywhere. There are sites that will allow you to access things like your company E Mail remotely, like Myemail.com.

You can go to http://free.myemail.com/ and set it up.

Where you going in Europe? Sounds like fun. Be sure to post some pictures while you're there.

Your iPod touch works off any WiFi, and WiFi is WiFi -- you should be fine. I have used public WiFi in Europe just fine. Where are you headed? Man, I wish airfare wasn't so high right now. I'd be heading back to Garmisch without a doubt!

Want to see the beaches in Normandy, Paris and as much of Germany that we can see in 2 weeks. Have a car rented with no special itinerary. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the info.

Normandy is very moving. I was there back in the mid-80's (as a child); I'll never forget those trips. If you have time, try to get to Garmisch; it's in the southern-most portion of Germany so it might be way out of your way, but I would give my left leg to get back there this summer. Airfare is ridiculous during the "peak season," though, so it looks like there's no Germany trip for us anytime soon.

Two paper cups and string will work. Have a nice safe trip.

Most of all: Have fun!!

You'll be able to receive messages fine, but most networks won't let you send mail from their SMTP (mail sending) server unless you're either on your network or can authenticate to it. Check with your email provider to be sure. If you can send messages when you're away from home here in the States (coffee shops, libraries, etc) you'll be able to do so from anywhere else in the world as well. If you have to be at home in order to send mail, then it won't work there either.

What is your service?

When I was in the Philippines and I had my PDA with wifi, my gmail synced to my pocket outlook worked perfect.
