my understanding (and I'm no expert)

As I understand it a brand new engine would be 400 to 425 range on all cylinders. Anything below 200 makes for hard to impossible starting. So 300 or so, especially on all cylinders sounds like 100s of k miles left.

You'd only need it tested if you have starting, power, etc problems to exclude lack of compression as a possible issue.
