Does any cruise indicator light up on the dash when you turn it on? Check the switch on the brake pedal. IIRC, Ford uses a press fit switch that adjusts by sliding back and forth in a collar. The switch may be accidentally shifted by a foot that happens to get up under the dash or if someone pulls up on the pedal for any reason.
