Major problem with 88 190e 2.3 please help
Here is the problem....it wont start. the last owner had it for 8 months with no problems untill oneday he parked it at night and the next morning it wouldn't start. needless to say i got it at a good price.

I have replaced the cap, rotor, and cps sensor with no luck yet. i have chased the spark to the distributor and after that there is no spark to the plugs. i inspected the distributor to find that the actual distributor shaft and rotor pretty much turns freely inside with one finger i can turn the rotor around. I pulled the distributor out and the gear looks great as does the inside gear. I feel that the rotor turning so freely causes the timming to be constantly out and that the motor is cranking over faster then the ignition timing. is there a way to make the two gears mesh more firmly ? or is my entire theroy out to lunch ? thanks all ideas would help.

and yes the plugs are wet fuel is not a problem
