woooo hoooo! Mileage report on new fiver in 300d euro with 307 rear

I took my first trip with the fiver in the 83 240/300 euro na car with the newly installed five speed.

I am running about 37 front and 35 rear cold air pressure in my new michelin water edge (is that right?) 195/70r14 tires.

I drove to oxford ohio and attended a porsche ralley with the #1 lovely daughter her hubby and the three gkids. (Good time), then I drove up to Colombus to their home and then back home. 442 miles 12.05 gallons. That works out to be 34.15 after reducing it by 5% for the odometer error.

I estimate about 2/3 was interstate driving 72-73 when alone and on level ground. I let her speed up when going down hill and slow going up and drove whenever convenient in somebody's wind shadow, sometimes getting up to 80 briefly, (never less than four car lengths I estimate). The other third was secondary roads driving 60 -65 and some stops. There was nearly an hour of idling in Oxford with the air running waiting for this or that.

I found my odo is 5% optomistic, by the mile markers and my speedo is pretty much right on the nose.

I bet on a trip with only running 65 I could get 36!

I would say the five speed transplant is performing as well or better than expected.

I am pondering some belly pan work and so forth in an effort to reach 40 mpg.
