WW2 Bomber question
I've been reading a 1940 Pop Mechanics. In this issue they have a 2 page photo spread on " The World's Biggest Bomber".
From the pictues, I cannot identify it, but the specs they give make me think it is a work of pure propaganda--- "carry an 18 ton load of bombs, from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast and return, non-stop. The wing is 212 feet from tip to tip, main landing wheels are 100 inches in diameter." Gross weight 164,000 pounds, 7500 mile cruising range, 210 mph top speed, fuel capacity of 11,000 gallons, 4, 2000HP engines.
one and one-quarter million hours of shop time were required to build the ship.
to me, the 212 foot wingspan seems very large for a 1940's aircraft.
Can anyone identify this bomber?
