If you are talking (and this is the only slipper looking thing I can think of) about the chain guide that looks like a banana, it does not need to come out to get the head off.

There is a ribbed guide on the right side of the head that needs to come out. Or actually just one threaded pin to pull and I think the larger bolt just underneath it needs to come off as well.
