You could pull your regulator and inspect it for obvious problems before you decide which way to go... If the contacts are to the nubs then it would be worth a shot to do the regulator and not the whole Alternator. If its got plenty of legs on it, then you might go the other way. Not a 100% sure thing but... something to think about.
