If you look around, you might find a less expensive brand. I found one made by 'Python', and professionally rebuilt goes for less than a third of what you're talking about + core. Might be a typo!
www.carpart.com - they claim to do repair as well.
Also, sometimes there are other rebuilders that can handle things they don't normally.
Take for example restaurant equipment rebuilders. They do all manner of rebuilding of small internal parts; ordering generic internal replacement parts out of huge catalogs. they re-shim, re-valve, re-seat, re-bush, re-just about everything for motors, pumps, valves, you name it.
I've had many a repair done at machine shops, expecially NOT job shops, but those that actually make entire products. They often like the challenge, and helping out local folks from the community.
