Newer can designs maybe, but when I did it and the flame went into the can, it was quite a boom.I've had a lighter do the same thing before, and it too exploded...

One word to the wise. Never substitute Zippo lighter fuel with 92 octane, that is unless you want a flame 3 feet tall!!!
