Don't know that you can test the crank position sensor; this was suggested to me by a tech with experience when my car started giving similar trouble: would die on the highway, restart and die almost immediately. Replaced CPS, no more problem. Other than the contortions required to R&R, not much to it.
My car is a V-8 but probably they all have them since the ignition and fuel inj sys are similar.
