no, it is not simple PnP....but it is close. if you've not had experience
performing small electrical mods, I wouldn't recommend it. you're working
on high voltage (12vdc input, but over 20kV) so this isn't the most
forgiving mod to undertake. yet, it's far from difficult. you just don't
want to use this as a learning moment risking relatively pricey parts
to replace.
another factor to be aware of is the ballast design. not all ballasts are
created equal. depending on the OEM (strongly recommend) ballast
which you are using, additional wiring and splicing may be needed. at
worse, it may be desirable (safety wise) to fabricate a sub-harness or
toss in inline fuse or breakers to each ballast.
on a scale of 10 (high degree of difficulty) the OEM HID retrofit to a
halogen equipped lighting system is about a 2.
agreed, the 99 E320 does not require bumper removal.
