My thoery: Diesels run "smoother&quieter" while on ATF/SVO/Motor oil because these fuels are more viscous than diesel, dampening the mechanical injection system. The fuels also burn slower than diesel, resulting in a "softer" firing cycle.
Just my theory, no for or against opinions on SVO VS diesel.
