Honestly. on my 87 300D, i don't cover anything.
I start the car and let it run about 5 minutes. get it warm, not hot.
I just spray everything under the hood with engine degreaser.
Let it sit 5-10 minutes, depending on how hot it is outside.
Spray it down good.
Next step, wash the outside of the car so any grease that gets on your paint doesnt set in.
