There is no fuel penalty for the turbo 123. In fact it usually is a little more efficient. That is reflected by slightly higher mpg. Those n/a 300ds are just not really good on fuel. I have oftened wondered if they might benifit from a rear end change to some extent. If nothing else it would quiet them on the highway a little. One of my cars is a 1977 300d.
