What should "normal" fuel milage be for my '79 300D (non-turbo)
I've been saving my diesel receipts and tracking my milage between refueling stops for a while now. I have just done some calculations on my accumulated data and I seem to be coming up with around 23-24mpg fuel-milage.
Does this seem right, or what should my expected milage target range be? Did these vehicals come with an estimaged MPG rating when sold new? |

I don't know, but ...
I don't know about yours, but my 1991 with turbo gets 30 city/36 hwy. If I have the a/c on, and stuck in traffic a lot, I might get 26 city.

I was gonna say 22-24 in mixed use. A little more on long trips, like 25. By today's standards not that great.

There is no fuel penalty for the turbo 123. In fact it usually is a little more efficient. That is reflected by slightly higher mpg. Those n/a 300ds are just not really good on fuel. I have oftened wondered if they might benifit from a rear end change to some extent. If nothing else it would quiet them on the highway a little. One of my cars is a 1977 300d.

I get 21-24 mpg in my non-turbo 300cd, and treat the accelerator pedal as an On/Off switch. The mileage is never lower than 21, even in city driving with the A/C on.
With Diesel costing more than RUG, it costs nearly the same to fuel a sub-20 mpg V8 gas hog anyway.
