The "high line" (280E) cars were equipped with the rectangular lights from introduction as 1976 models in Europe.

Low line cars (200, 240D) had the round euro lights at point of introduction.

In the early eighties, all W123 cars were equipped with the rectangular lights.

Outside of the USA, of course.
