Talking Another 240D fix to share

I have enjoyed the repair stories of late so I have a couple that I did the other day that actually worked. My daughters 78 240d had a couple of problems crop up at the same time. She had been losing coolant so after seeing the dripage right under the water pump I pulled the radiator (no ac) too give clear access, and changed the impeller without pulling the whole water pump. Why would the Haynes manual have you pull the entire pump , I don't know. The other problem was that her battery was very low and when I checked the voltage (while running) the meter showed only 12.5 volts. I pulled the voltage regulator and the bushes were down to the "nubs". I got a set of new brushes at a local electric shop for $1.00 (thats for both!) and soldered them in. I used the old 'sleeves" on the wires as they were more flexable. Anyway after reinstalling the regulator and charging the battery the meter showed 13.5 volts.
