That's some crazy stuff.
During this year's spring break from college, I drove by some girl pretty slowly in the parking lot of an Applebee's around 12:30 am, as she was getting into her Ford F-series 4wd pickup truck. Apparantly, she thought I was giving her the eye (I was looking at some other girl in another car nearby). The next thing I know, I'm proceeding through a large mall parkinglot (adjacent to the first one) with an F-250 from the mid-90s tailgating me.
So I did the sensible thing. I jammed the throttle down in the 740 Turbo to the kickdown switch and shot away after a moment of turbo lag. Over the next 5 minutes, I learned how well a Volvo 740 slides sideways with worn tires on wet pavement with the turbo on boost, and how easy a RWD car is to steer with the throttle. No ABS or traction control on this beast to interfere with things here.
End result, I slalomed around a lot of buildings and TOTALLY ran away from her in the turns (despite running a worn set of skinny 195-60 HR-15 tires) in the car. I also witnessed how easily a V-8 pickup with no weight in the pack will go sideways. I finally ditched the girl by hiding in a cul-de-sac in a nearby subdivision with my lights off. Hey, hide and go seek can still be fun.
