During the 2004 presidential campaign, some political opponents mocked Sen. Kerry, D-Mass., the Democratic nominee, for receiving three Purple Hearts for shrapnel wounds he got during the Vietnam War, which critics deemed too minor to deserve recognition. In the last of these actions, Kerry also received a Bronze Star.

It wasn't his "last action" but Kerry also received the Silver Star for actions on Feb. 28, 1969. I belieive that was the time he beached his craft and ran down a VC and killed him.

His Bronze Star was awarded for actions on March 13th, 1969.

His timeline:
Nov. 1968 Arrived RVN
Dec. 2, 1968. First Purple Heart.
Feb. 20, 1969. 2nd Purple Heart
Feb. 28, 1969. Silver Star.
March 13, 1969. 3rd Purple Heart. (and Bronze Star)
March 17, 1969. Requested transfer.
April, 1969 Departed RVN
