I've been using a wax based bicycle chain lube on the slider rails for several years with fine results. It's water based and intended to dry out after depositing the wax where it needs to go. Because it's somewhat water soluble it needs to be applied more frequently, but otherwise works fine. BTW, I find it lousy for bicycle chains - it simply isn't slippery enough and I always have problems with chains jumping, unintended shifting, etc. Perhaps this is why I'm always looking for alternative uses of this stuff...
