Is there a trick to routing trans cooler lines?

I recently dropped the engine and transmission back into my '87 300SDL and I spent way too much time trying to get my transmission cooler lines back into place.

I got them close enough but they certainly aren't routed the way they came from the factory.

I didn't attach them to the brackets along the oil pan because it seemed like I would have had to bend them (more likely break something).

I know for sure that I did not bend them while removing them.

I also tried the lines on both sides of the car, just to be sure, even did it twice because I thought I was going crazy.

So everything is hooked up and nothing is leaking but I'd rather get these lines strapped down properly.

Any suggestions?

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?
