Well I guess that depends on how much oil is on your carpet - now that you've got the gauge out you could try running the engine to see if any oil weeps or squirts out.

The other possibility that was also posted was a leak from the vacuum lines running to the ignition key - take a look there too.

If you still can't find it take a deep breath and don't get distracted by the wood or the trees - if you see what I mean? The oil must be leaking from somewhere and it will leak down.
