The knocking sound was loud and I thought something was loose inside the cylinder. I did not do a diesel purge. I soaked all the injectors in Marvel Mystery Oil for 2+ weeks and the problem went away. That was all I did and now the engine runs well. I did about 400 miles so far with no noise at startup.
