I can see a guy like Delay doing that. He is such a vile and despised SOB, it is easy to assume the worst about him, but I can see where a guy like that would have some principles when it comes to standing up for his fellow believers.
The jury's guilty verdict and the judge's stiff sentence are encouraging to me. I seem them as evidence that the case is about more than politics. It appears that he really did commit a real crime, which is good to know. You never want to see a prosecutor go after someone for solely political or personal purposes.
