Did you possibly get the wrong part for the new camshaft
I did get the correct rocker arms - thanks. The problem isn't with the arms - the towers don't sit flat on the head. See this photo:-



You can see that the feeler gauges slide neatly under the inner sides of both towers. The outer sides are firmly on the surface of the head.

To show how the towers are out of alignment I'll try and take some measurements and more photographs tomorrow.
