There's more than one possibility of course but you might want to consider the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It monitors the gas pedal position and tells the ECU how fast to run the engine. There should be error or adaptation codes stored but you need a scan with SDS at the dealer or well-heeled indy to check.
