Solved!
Here's a solution posted by Govert70227 at benzworld-
Disconnect the securing pin at red arrow #1. Disconnect the socket at red arrow #2.
Now move the rod in the direction of the green arrow #1, it should come out of the rubber piece on the firewall. Now move rod in the direction of blue arrow #2. Perhaps you'll need to remove a clip, but I cannot see it in the picture.
And you'll probably have to disconnect at blue arrow #3.
