Their panels supposedly did as well when mounted flat as they would aimed, reducing complexity and cost somewhat. Chinese manufacture of silicon made the price sink and Solyndra's non-silicon tech suddenly wasn't as attractive.
I'm down on PV in general. Too high tech and the making of it is way toxic. Heat concentration is the ticket IMO. Skyline solar uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight on PV cells, thus getting much more bang for PV buck (and more bang per unit of PV toxicity).
