The "White Plastic Thingy"
is a Rotating Lock (NOT VERY FAR,15 to 20 degrees) for the Female Electrical
Plug.
That device is the "Back Up (Reverse) Light switch.
(also know as the Neutral Safety Switch.[Starter Non-Repeat] )
The Picture in your post #1 shows the correct orientation of the Switch.
The Pictogram shows the correct orientation of the "White Plastic Locking
Device."
EDIT:
emerydc8 's Pictures #1 and #2 in the Link he posted are far superior to the
monoscale pictogram!
